Home timeeee

As it was reading week I decided to go home for a few days. I havent actually missed home until I got home and I realised I really do! I also never really realised how beautiful the countryside is near me! Its also strange being away for ages then coming back and its a completely different season!

Whitby Harbour.

Some fishing nets and a seagull

The seagull that was carrying around an icecream

I also decided to make a cake for my friend in my halls as it was her birthday...she isn't allowed gluten though so we had to search about for gluten free self raising flour. This is the cake anyway...

Newcastleee

On the 21st/22nd October we all went to Newcastleeee!!

We went to the Baltic near the Millenium bridge were we saw Anselm Kiefer, Dirk Bell and Tomas Saraceno.

Anselm Kiefer

This piece represented Christs body on the floor before he rose again. In the images behind the tree are supposed to represent the death and then rise of Christ. In the paintings there are little birls pinifores. A man in the gallery thought that they represented all the children that had died in the holocaust. This is because Kiefer had related alot of his work to the holocaust. I although i wasnt a big fan of his work its self I loved the meaning behind it and the representation of the different things he wants to say.

Dirk Bell

I didnt fully understand Bells' work, it was a room with lights on the ceiling a glass box in the middle with drawings of eyes on it then this on the wall opposite. I think it is quite clever the way the word IKEA is incorporated into the sign....but i dont really get it.

Tomas Saraceno

Out of all the things I saw at the Baltic this was my favourite!!! it was just amazing!! it took 2 years to make, 2 weeks to install at the baltic. It is actually crazy how complex it is...and its not perfect like a spiders web.

The next day..after an eventful night we went to the coast...

There was a wedding on the beach-he wrote I love you in the sand to her.

We then got the bus to the angel of the North...

hide out

For this brief we had to create a word that relates to the place you took photos of. I decided to take photos of different objects found in my room. I quite like the 'o' letter form and the 'e' I think they look different but show the letter form well.

influencesss

Rowan Newton.
Rowan Newton went to Westminster University. After constantly living in a large city, London, from an early age he has been greatly influenced by graffiti and street art. I can really see this influence in his work!
I just love his use of bold, bright and luminous colours. I also love the line marks in his work...if you look really closely you can see that the folds and creases are just made up of lines.
You can look at more of his work on:

Paul Delaroche
I love history.
My favouritest period in history is the tudors!! especially Henry VIII. After visiting the National Gallery in London when I was 13 I fell in love with this painting by Paul Delaroche. I bought the post card and its been on my bedroom wall for years! I found it fascinating how detailed and real to life it is. Although produced in 1833 and is not fully true to life, I still love it. love love love.

I also suggest reading : The Innocent Traitor by Alison Weir....its all about what happened to Lady Jane Grey.

Charlotte Mann

Charlotte Mann is a British artist who lectures at Central St Martins, Chelsea and Camberwell. She produces 1:1 scale drawings as installations. I love the detail in her work. I also have a thing for black and white illustrations...I dont really know why they just fascinate me.

Sport.

Sport is a VERY big influence in my life. I just love doing it...it makes me feel loads better about myself and the majority of the time my mind wanders and I get my best ideas for projects and things from just thinking about nothing....I think sport is something im addicted to. I have to do it...the one thing I do miss from home is the fact that I can't just do sport when ever I want as its soooooooo expensive!

Quotes
Every where I go, I see quotes that inspire me.Whenever I start a new project one of the first things I do is look all over for quotes to do with the subject...it leads me onto so many more ideas. For a long time one of my favourite quotes that I do live by is:

"Chase the dream, not the competition"
(Flawless-Britains got talent)

Paula Rego

I studied the abortion series by Paula Rego last year. It fascinated me how, a series of drawings could have such a political impact on a country. It also demonstrated Rego's passion to the subject matter and the fact that perseverance really does pay off. Not only does this inspire me, but I really like her style of drawing and painting...inparticular the black and white ink drawings.

Pressure and Fear
Pressure and fear inspire me to work harder. I also have a fear of loosing...when I see that someone is better than me it inspires me to push that little bit harder to try and do better. Also, I know its very cliche but I really do work better under pressure, as I know it has to be done and it has to be good.

Faye Greason
On my foundation course I sat next to this one girl all year, she used to do the most amazing water colour paintings. No matter what she did it would always look extremley professional and everyone would always want to see what she was doing next. She really inspired me, even just thinking of her work it makes me know that I need to step up the quality and effort of my work.

Ben Tallon
From being introduced to the work of Ben Tallon in my foundation year I have been constantly inspired by his work. I love the sketchy modern feel to his work. Everything just fits perfectly on the page but at the same time has a feeling of messyness to it. I also like the quirkiness to his work...with his play on words and the images he uses.

Misty Mawn Blog
I have been for quite a while now drawn to Misty Mawn's blog. I just love the photographs, the paintings, the quotes, the writing. Everything about this blog is appealing to me! I have had so many ideas from just looking at this blog, it has and continues to inspire me with my work. It has a very natural, earthly feel to the work on it. I think its just beautiful.
